Kiwanis of Longmont has delivered over 200,000 handmade wooden toys to local, state and county agencies and organizations serving children in need. Some toys also reach children in other states and foreign countries. Each toy is handmade by Kiwanis members who meet daily and weekly to β€œmanufacture” the toys in what we fondly call the TOY FACTORY. The toys are made from donated repurposed wood from local contractors and a local furniture manufacturer which might be other wise discarded. The project started fourteen years ago as a way to bring our club members together for one very special project. We found many members had woodworking equipment as well as a love for creating items with wood. We began in a garage and now our factory has expanded to a large fully equipped shop. Each year approximately 10,000 toys are delivered to children. Outside volunteers such as woodcrafters, Scouting and school children of all ages pitch in to work in our factory to complete the toys for delivery by Christmas and Holiday distribution.
